All the big wigs have got together to discuss the price of rice and how that is going to affect Surin Provence and guess what?To form a committee to talk about the Elephant party cancellation and appeal to the PM. The appeal will include, provision that no one has a good time and only cultural significance of the Elephants is observed.
It was also noted that they believe it will fail as the PM has already red stamped the event.

Slightly different. The ladies in Pattaya , Phuket and elsewhere are mainly greedy, but it is the elephant owners/mahouts that are greedy. Both the ladies and the elephants have the power to stop abuse -if they care to use it. Some do -more often than one would imagine.....so I am told.

What do you think is the main reason that most young ladies wind up working as bar girls in Patts & Phuk & BKK ?
Are there not enough positions working restaurant and hotel jobs according to their families back in Isaan ?
Are their daughters really the greedy ones ?

Just from my limited observations.................................
The main objective of the Thai ladies is to gain a 'better life'- both for themselves and the inevitable offspring that Mama or ugly sister is taking care of.
There are as many girls working in Bangkok factories/hotels as their are 'working girls'.
The amount that is typically sent back to the family is a small percentage of gross earnings,
I rarely see these girls without the latest iPhone, gold around their necks or tattoo on their ass.
The elephants have no choice in their fate.
The girls have the choice of a life in an Isaan village or the bright lights/excitement/peer group socialising/money etc, etc of Pattaya/Phuket/Bangkok.
Tough decision eh?

Having seen Pattaya grow from very little upon my arrival on these shores 30 years ago, and from what I saw and was told before coming to Isaan 15 years ago, it was predominantly the girls that were greedy. Money was sent home to the parents, but very little. Perhaps it was their boyfriends who were the greedy ones.They were well looked after financially. Even today, with many bargirls from my village and neighbouring ones, very little money is sent home to support the parents and their kids. 2/3,000baht seems to be the norm.

What are they...lawyers , bankers, stockbrokers, commercial rice and rubber buyers, silk producers, politicians...?
What percentage of farangs have hooked in with anything above ?
