Troops, police and provincial administration officials rounded up 63 teenagers and seized 43 motorcycles after they raced on roads in Meuang Si Saket district at 1:30 am Sunday.

What I wonder will happen to them. How many were under 15, and would not have been eligible for driving licences? How many 15+ actually had driving licences. Helmets-doubtful!

The bikes should be confiscated for minimum 3 months, and whether in possession of licences or not they should be banned from driving for a minimum 6 months, with those under 15 having to wait until they are 15 years and 6 months before they can apply for licences. Breach of the ban should result in a custodial sentence.

That's my view on the matter, but in reality they will be told they are naughty boys, may be fined up to 500 baht, and will undoubtedly repeat their racing in short time.

Lets just look at it from a Thai perspective....not a sensible western approach.

Constant money stream for the dick turpins, they also get their pick of the bikes for their own, the temple makes money on every road death, the hospital and clinics too on RTAs ..

The meat wagons first at the scene of an incident get paid...the list goes on.

It is their natural cull, they use it to their advantage.

P.S Once in a while Thailand gets a good motorcycle racer, like Ratthapark Wilairot who learnt his craft on the soi who won the first World Supersport race in Buriram, and 6th place last weeked in Europe...
