Because a) borehole is too far from shop units, and b) with the system of pipework already supplied by the borehole the pressure isn't as good as the mains - without paying out for a bigger pump, c) it's good to have a back-up and d) her indoors doesn't like showering in borehole water! AND...

We have mains water running into underground tank ( concrete pipe rings, double thick with concrete inbetween), which is then pumped into the house 'on demand'. As already mentioned, the tank acts as a filter and can easily be cleaned out if required and we've never had shower head or similar...
