Lightning kills rice farmer as thunderstorms sweep Buri Ram

A Buri Ram farmer was fatally injured on Wednesday evening when lightning struck the ground near him while he was sowing rice.


Ian Lokeprakhone, 62, of Ban Bart, Tambon Takotapi, Prakhone Chai district died at the Buri Ram provincial hospital on Thursday morning.



He’d been transferred there from his district hospital due to his critical condition.



Lightning also killed a cow owned by Thawil Lekprakhone in Moo 2 village, Tambon Khok Ma, at about the same time Ian was injured

Officials said thunderstorms damaged about 50 houses in Khok Ma and Takotapi.

My info yesterday was 2 dead I suppose a Thai getting it half correct is better than nothing. Kokma is my village. Tagotapi is 10kms away. Haven't seen much damage in Kokma.

The cow belonged to the Father in Law of a resident German...Poo Yai Baan I believe

Ian means eel in Thai. Not common but either is Big C and Tesco and I have met them both, they are just kids. Imaginative parents. There was an earlier news report of a young man on a motor cycle that was hit and later died in Buri Ram as well.
