Schooling in Surin

If you have children of school age, I highly recommend the following 2 schools in Surin. At the kindergarten, primary and junior level - AnubarnSurin. At the secondary level - Sirindhorn School for Girls - although some boys are accepted for the specialist, fee-paying classes. There are separate entrance exams for Sirindhorn school, one for the specialist classes and another for the general classes.

Both my daughters started at AnubarnSurin, The eldest finished 2 years ago, the youngest daughter will start her final year Year 6, in May 2020. Notwithstanding the high numbers in each class, usually around 48, they have both done very well with their academic achievements. Thi9s year, my youngest daughter achieved a general score of 3.95, was placed 4th out of 48 for her class, and 59th out of 429 for her year. Well done.

My eldest daughter successfully passed the entrance exam for Sirindhorn School for Girls and has, for the past 2 years been in the top general class. There are 14 classes in each of Years 1, 2, and 3 and class size is strictly limited to 40 students per class. This year, her examination results speak for themselves. She attained straight 4's across the board, 1st in her class, and 1st in her year of 512. Excellent, and very well done.

Both schools offer specialist, fee-paying English Progamme classes. On the advice of educational specialists, plus our own feelings, we did not enroll our daughters in the English Programmes of either school. With an English father in the home, and conversational English is spoken every day, we felt their English needs were better catered for than most.

Finally, I can say that both my daughters enjoy the atmosphere of, and the schooling provided, by both of these very good state schools. I have teased them on many occasions about changing schools, of attending, for example, a private, fee-paying school On every occasion they have turned me down. They really do enjoy the schools they attend and are very happy girls too. :D:D:D

To whom is the "gift"paid, and where exactly does it go? 4,000Baht/year would buy many bottles of Bells:rolleyes:
As I understand, the amount you gift is"up to you". Given that there are some 3,500 students in a typical school in Surin, 1,000 baht once a year would amount to some 3,500,000 baht. A sizeable amount of money you surely agree. I understand is supposed to go to general improvements and learning aids not covered by Government grants. In practice, how it is spent and on what, I have absolutely no idea.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The staff will not be needing so much now that they cannot buy alcohol, and cannot get out to visit their mia nois!:D
Being a semi private school, they should include all the additional costs in the term, fee. I don't trust any of these educational buggers!

I do not know where you get the notion they are semi-private schools. To the best of my wife's knowledge, and mine for that matter, both AnubarnSurin and Sirindhorn are Government or State schools. The private establishments are the Chinese school in town and the Catholic school on the ring road. Furthermore, there is no set fee for the donation and it is up to the parent whether they wish to donate or otherwise. Over the years, my wife has found a donation of 1,000 is very appropriate. Should you decide to do so, a receipt is given.

You mentioned an annual fee for both the junior and secondary schools. As such they cannot be solely state schools, otherwise there would surely be no fee. Semi private schools charge a fee, and this is topped up by the government,. Happy to hear a receipt is given for the donation,

I have never heard the term semi-private and, while state schools are supposedly free, the schools my children attend have always had a relatively low annual fee. I will leave it to those that are more knowledgeable than me to explain the differences.
