The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok and consulates in Pattaya and Phuket has been forced to change the document requirement for confirmation of annual income on a short notice.

“Norwegian citizens in Thailand may need confirmation of their income/pension from Norway in connection with the extension of a one-year visa. In this connection, they ask the embassy to confirm annual income/pension.

As it is the annual income that needs to be confirmed, we have required presentation of the latest annual statement from NAV or the latest tax return. The Embassy has changed its practice and will no longer calculate future income based on documentation of monthly payments,” they write in on their Facebook page.

In time all other Embassies will have to drop the bogus. Confirmations they give are just based on the word of their citizens. The whole old system was purely based on that.
While statutory declaration may hold weight in ones country where you can be held legally liable for any falsehoods. In Thailand when the Thai government discovers you are lying. Is the embassy going to re patriot you to face charges. I don't think so. So the old system really was a joke. We all know it.

As each country is called out on it. They will all fold in time. Have your back up plan ready for countries that are still doing the "yeah it is what he said" Now pay the fee.

A stash to go where if needed? Will your wife pack up and leave with you? We can do the income statements, most of us, but there are plenty here that likely cannot, for varying reasons. The Norwegies are usually good with their pensions and annual incomes and I'd bet most can show it in some way from their government pensions and such.
