I wonder what qualifications are required to become a "verification specialist"?

I had sent off my completed form in early September, as others here had too. They were sent an email to notify them that it was in the post.

A few minutes ago, I received a phone call from them, and went through an I.D. process before they would state the reason for the call. Once satisfied* they said that they were responding to my "recent letter."

I said that I hadn't written a letter to them recently, but could they mean the email and the form sent to them months ago? Yes, said the lady, and apologised for the delay in responding.

She confirmed that the case had been approved in October.

She then went on to ask where I banked. I confirmed my UK bank's name, t he one that my pension is sent to every 4 weeks.
She then asked for my address here. I replied that it is the same one that they sent the form to in August.
She then asked for my phone number. I told her that it was the one she'd just dialled to call me.

And some of us criticise Thai bureaucracy!

Logic and common sense has deserted the present generation. Your story reminds me of a friend in Australia that applied for the national pension. They called up all his particulars on their data system, then started to ask him all the information on the screen in front of them. Mind you his identity was already verified at that stage. Him stating they were already staring at all his data did not help his cause. He was escorted from the building by security. Moral to the story. Just answer the f$#@$% questions. All it does is confuse them, when they have to step outside of their paint by the numbers instructions. Brain dead morons.

DWP should consider the practice adopted by the trustees of the HSBC scene. I received this (by email) today:-

Dear Sir,

ACTION REQUIRED - HSBC Bank (UK) Pension Scheme Annual Pension Verification Check 2023

The Trustee of the HSBC Bank (UK) Pension Scheme (the Scheme) regularly asks all pensioners of the Scheme who live overseas to complete a verification as a means of fraud prevention. The Trustees have appointed Target Professional Services to assist in validating their overseas pensioners to ensure that they hold the most up to date details on their records. If you have any concerns regarding this process, please visit the Target Professional website https://targetprofessional.co.uk/faq/verification/ where you will find further information on what we do.

To ensure continuation of your pension payments, please complete the exercise by 10 November 2023 using one of the following methods. Target will only acknowledge receipt of your completed certificate if you request this when you return your certificate.

Preferred method of verification - mypensionID
A safe, simple, and speedy way to verify your details is via the mypensionID app. You can download the app free from the Apple Store or the Google Play Store. All you need is a mobile device with the most up to date operating software that can take photographs and has a strong steady internet signal, a valid government issued photo document such as passport, driving licence or ID Card and your Unique Security Code at the top of this email.

When you've downloaded mypensionID, the app instructions will guide you through your registration and verification process.

If you experience any problems with the app please go to https://mypensionid.co.uk/contact/ where someone on Target's live chat team will be happy to help you. If you have previously verified your details on mypensionID for another pension scheme, you can access your account using the 5-digit passcode you created when you registered.

Once registered, you will be able to use the app for future verification exercises and to verify a change of address.

Other ways to keep your details up to date - Life Certificate
If you are unable or do not wish to register with mypensionID, an alternative way for you to verify your details is to complete 'Part A' of the 2023 Overseas Life Certificate form attached to this email.

In addition to this certificate, you will need to provide valid documents for identification. You will need to provide a copy of one or more of the following: your passport, photo driving licence or National ID card.

If you are unable to send the photo identification above, then 'Part B' must also be filled out by an independent witness who holds an official stamp. The counter signatory must witness your signature, sign, date and stamp the certificate on the same day that you sign the form. Witnesses qualified to countersign are bank officers, doctors, lawyers, or a minister of your religion.

You can return the certificate and supporting documents in one of the following ways:
* By Email to: HSBC@targetprofessional.co.uk
* By post to: Target at Target Professional Services, Unit 3 Sherrington Chambers, Sherrington Mews, Ellis Square, Selsey, PO20 0FJ, United Kingdom

What you should do
Please verify via the app or return the completed certificate by 10 November 2023.

If we do not hear from you by this date it could result in delays to your future pension payments and a temporary suspension of Scheme correspondence. However, this would be for the Trustee to decide, and we would advise you should this be the case. If you have any further queries, please contact us on telephone +44 (0) 1243 601333

I have been using "Target" to confirm that I'm still alive for the benefit of the PPF for three years now. However, I've not yet managed to get mypensionID to work so use the email option.

PPF are a subsidiary of DWP.
