Using our down time wisely

While we have been closed since the 30th March we took a couple days off to relax and get things set up to hunker down and stay home. The past 6 days we have been painting the restaurant and getting things done we have not been able to do the past few years while running a restaurant 6 days a week 13 hours a day. You just can't do painting without having a few days at least to let the fumes air out. So now we have the time to do so we are getting it done while we can. Once done painting we will then disinfect all the floors etc before we open again, as well as many other little things we have wanted to do but just haven't had the time (or energy) to do. There will be new menus. A new oven in the back to replace the huge old monster of a pizza oven (we may discontinue doing pizzas, it's being discussed). The old pizza oven has been moved out and a smaller oven with extra stove top burners will be added. More room for the chefs.

The dining area is only 4 and a half years old and was painted then when we built the smaller place. The other area behind is the sitting/TV area where they relax when not busy with customers or cleaning up. That paint is around 20 years old. Yellowed and faded and ugly as sin in my mind. Amazingly enough though, as I had used a quality water based semi gloss latex back then, the paint was still tight to the walls and hardly any scraping was needed to be able to repaint it. It pays to use a good quality paint. Being that all the walls in front and back, including the kitchen area, were white, it shows every smudge and yellows over time. We went for a very light blue this time. Looks good with our Greek style blue ceilings, which are much darker blue than the walls will be.

We hope to re-open May 1st if the science is there that the virus is spent and finished and we will all be able to safely go about our business. If not we will likely start doing take away until safe to seat diners again. Starbeam's Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture clinic has been closed since the 29th March. We will go there next and disinfect the clinic before she will re-open around the 20th, or later if things are not back to normal.

Just letting people know what we are up to during the shut down and shut in. It's just us four, the shut ins. Not mingling with others and spreading the Covid. We stay in the Thep Thani house, and go in the mornings to the restaurant and work on the place.

Stay healthy and safe all. See you on the other side of bizzaro world 2020.

Some pics. The dining area was first on the list to do. Just in case they totally shut us all down with a huge curfew. I wanted 'at least' to be able to do this room. (By the by, these pics are after a first coat of paint. All will get two or three as needed.)
