Surin Government Service Center - Immigration

just did my 90 day. They have stuck a sign on a window pointing to immigration.
Cant miss it when you walk out the elevator. They do want photo copies of your passport and resent visa ext. and arrival/ departure card , TM7?. cost me 20baht for photo copies. There was also a new form to sign. They filled it in on the computer. Something to do with staying ln Thailand over 90 days. He had a stack off these on his desk.

Heard a rumour today - third hand - that the new Surin Immigration Office was closed today. Possible reason that an employee has contracted Covid-19.

Could be bollocks but it may be worth enquiring should you be intending to visit in the near future.

I went to the Service Center this morning to complete my 90-day report. The lack of English signage posed a little problem in finding the Immigration Office, especially as the girl from the Labour Office sent me down one floor rather than next door. Fortunately, a nice gentleman took pity and escortedre me back up the stairs to the correct office. The office is very spacious, with good seating, and air conditioning. There was one other person doing a long stay extension at the sole desk that was occupied by a senior Immigration Officer. There was another open desk but not filled. I waited patiently for about 10 minutes before I was called forward. I handed over photocopies of my passport, relevant pages, and my passport. The 90-day report was processed quickly. As I got up to leave, maybe 5 or 6 people were being brought into the office. I was happy I was not behind them.

The journey time for me, to and from the new building was less than 20 minutes. A lot quicker than the half a day I used to take to go to Kap Choeng and back. My only concern, the apparent lack of Immigration Officers staffing the unit this morning. If this is the norm, you may be subject to long delays if they are busy.
Good report ! Kap Choeng is more convenient for me will go there if they remain open ?

Just found out this afternoon from the Timeline for one of the Immigration Officers who have Covid-19, we nearly crossed paths. I went for my 90-day report to the new Surin Service Center on 21st June at 09.10. I left the office at about 09.30. The I.O. in question turned up at the office just before midday. Phew! That was a lucky miss.

If you had sorted out your vintage TM6 once and for all, you would not have placed yourself in this precarious situation. The IO in question may well have been in contact with the IO you did see the day previously

Not necessarily. Many folks who previously could report on-line are now not accepted. Because of the malfunction of the Immigration website and the incompetence of those in charge of it, the site was unavailable for over 3 months thereby requiring virtually every expat (who was required to 90 day report) to apply in person. Probably again due to incompetence, the computer database was not updated for these "in person" reports and the whole thing is now an almighty clusterfuck.

Mine apparently is in order as I reported both in person and on-line last month. I now have 2 dates to report again, one week apart.

Hardly a precarious positiion. I have been doing a 90-day report for the past 17 years and, until such time as they dispense with that report, I will continue to do so every 90-days. Now that the center is only an 8-minute drive from my house, I see no need to obtain a new TM 6. Besides, border runs are no longer possible in the current climate and I need a new passport within the next year.

The only reason I took photocopies of my passport was because of your comment regarding Kevin. Usually, I do not copy my passport for 90-day reports. I copied the opening double-page and each page with the visa extensions. I also copied my Pink ID Card and put that at the front of the pile. Each page carried my signature. The I.O. did look at the front page with interest, the Pink Card, but hardly bothered with the passport pages. He willingly accepted the bundle of papaers.

Unfortunately, my primary translator stayed home to do her hair and left me to go solo. I was unable to ask if photocopies are required every time.

The one thing that you shouldn't do is provide copies of documents that are not asked for. They'll get the impression that they're required and, in their minds, it will then become a necessity.

I applied for my first extension of stay around 2002 in the little shack on the way in to Kab Cheong. I took copies of Embassy letter, bank passbooks (I had 4 at the time), passport pages, heath certificate, etc. all in a large brown envelope. I asked the IO (club foot) what he wanted and he held his hand out for the envelope. "No, you tell me what you want and I'll give it to you". I gave him each copy that he asked for but no more. Extension granted.

Off topic, but the UK Passport Service now advise that you need allow 11 weeks for a new passport……much longer and they will overlap 90 day reporting!!

That could be a major problem for some Brits (who cannot report on-line).

Back in 2010 I was required to send my passport for renewal at the British embassy in Bangkok and I asked what I should do if I was requested to produce my passport (which is legally required). The British embassy said they would give me a letter explaining the situation. I pointed out that the law states "carry your passport at all times*", not "carry your passport at all times or a letter from your embassy*. I sent off the passport but never got the letter.

With the processing system through VfS at least the old passport can be retained.

The last passport that Thai Widows and Expats submitted to VFS at the end of May was back within just 2 weeks, despite the then 8 weeks time mentioned.. They are covering their arses.

I heard that the i-mobile immigration office in Buriram recently permitted a 90 day report to be done with just a photocopy of the passport. May not work every time, or anywhere else but in Buriram. Worth asking the question though for those in need.

Thats is all that's need at KC.

Is there Covid 19 at Surin Immigration Office?
I don't think so although an Immigration Officer with Covid-19 (from Kap Choeng) did visit the office a week ago, 21st June, around midday. A Timeline was published for this individual.
