Twenty inmates of Kantharalak prison in Si Sa Ket province, who suffered from acute diarrhea, are still being treated in two hospitals.

During Dec 7-12 about 150 inmates in the Kantharalak prison fell sick of diarrhea and two of them died.

On Dec 16, 20 of the sick inmates are still being hospitalised–17 in Kantharalak Hospital and three in Si Sa Ket Hospital. Most of them are suffering from weakness in muscles. They have been kept under watch.

The Public Health Ministry has sent experts in the fields of epidemiology, occupational medicine and toxicology to the prison to collect samples of water, foods, urine and faeces for examination at the Medical Science Department to find the real cause of the sickness.

The patients have been examined for heavy metal in blood and urine. The examination result has not been concluded.
