Francois and Pat of 'The Beach' are opening their new restaurant on Soi Speed in a couple weeks. Should be some interesting tasty cuisine there to add to what one can dine on in Surin. French and Thai I believe. Good luck to them on their new venture. I believe it is named Apsara. Information to follow on the opening of this new restaurant in Surin City.

Francois's son Cyril says they hope to be open in the next 10 days or so.

And the Beach? Still open? Or the same place renamed?

Nick, The Beach will still be open as it is with Pat's brother Meng and his wife running it, as they mainly do already.

Nick, the new restaurant will be in another building down the street right next door to the Celebrate Restaurant on Soi Speed.

Francois said he would be putting out pictures of the food as they get the menu together and figure out what they want to do.

Maybe the Beach could serve as the venue for the future SF get together - details of which seem to have dissipated. Feret--where are you?

I think Feret is starting to regret starting it.

Croc, Feret's off the grog though and I bet you regretted it the next morning.

Here are the very first two dishes out of Apsara's kitchen: Salmon three ways, rillettes, tartare and gravlax, as well as salmon carpaccio with passion fruit and olive oil dressing, cherry tomatoes and mint salad.

We moved to beef today with our version of the traditional French red wine beef stew Bourguignon, with mash, baby carrots, mushrooms and confit shallots.

I noticed it didn’t come with a price list!

That must be a very small portion or a very large plate.

Looks appetising, - arty farty food - but doubt it would fill me.

Perhaps not fill you but may empty your wallet. God speed to them but is there that sort of clientele in Surin?

I went off 'art deco' many years ago, almost as quick as it started. Ok, so I do know its called nouveaux cuisine but arty farty is just as good. Definitely not for me. Give me a full and meaningful plateful everyday of good old English cooking.

When did Soi Kola turn into Soi Speed? Sounds like a drug haven!!

I think it's called nouvelle cuisine. Not that I find it of any interest.
