Kasikorn Just Took 800 Baht

Just received an SMS from Kasikorn bank telling me that they have taken 800 baht from my account for an annual card fee.

Surely this is too much, especially when I regularly deposit large amounts into the account.

My wife seems to think it's a bit much and she banks with Krungsi and only pays about 200 b annual fee.

Do you guys think this is normal? Seriously thinking about looking for a new bank before I deposit my 800,000 baht visa extension money.

Just had another look and it says "Annual fee - sa - batch".

Think you are right GL, I will wander in there today and sort it.

OK, went in and saw them and it seems I have a Platinum Visa Debit Card that costs more, but..........get this..................if I lose it or need a new one...........I don't have to pay for a replacement card!!!

I have another account with Kasikorn that has a standard card attached to it and it only costs 200 p/y.

Suppose I should have listened more carefully when I opened the account, but, then again, the Mrs was translating for me.

The banks are rarely wrong - but it is often down to the size of the small print.

I have checked the Kasikorn website (at least the bits in English) and the only debit card available that charges an annual fee of 800baht is the K_Max Family Debit Card, which apart from the usual sevices provided includes some limited life assurance and accident coverage for all the family. http://www.kasikornbank.com/EN/Personal/Debit/Pages/KMaxFamilyDebitCard.aspx

Like all other Thai commercial banks, the standard debit card has a 200baht annual charge.

Had another look at the website and my card and now realise that my debit card is for SME customers!!! It is called an K-SME Debit Card.

How I got that I can't work out. I am not even allowed to conduct a business here.

Back to the bank I guess.

I've got one of those.

A few benefits...

Up to 1% refund on all purchases with the card.
200.000 withdraw limit at ATMs per day.
1.000.000 transfer limit at ATMs.

Thanks Pat, I always assumed that I could only withdraw 20,000 per day as it says so at the terminal. So I assume that I can do several withdrawls up to the maximum each day. Not sure how the 1% refund works as I have never used it to purchase goods. I assume then that I should use it when doing the weekly grocery shop. booking hotels etc?

Thanks.

Really a 1% rebate on all purchases --- that is a terrific deal.
If you purchase 100,000 a year with the card you've basically paid for the annual card fee.

Maybe try purchasing a vehicle with the card and see how the dealer reacts. Crazy1

I'm sure the higher withdrawal and transfer limits will work out splendidly when Wombat enjoys a surprise night on the town or when he nonchalantly swings by the 7-11 to pickup some beer and smokes...Good_Night Wombat.

Try buying a tractor or accessories from Surin Kubota, with a card. They only deal in CASH!!

As does Chevy , Ford, John Deere, Nissan, Komatsu, Isuzu, Toyota and Tata.

When I pulled out my credit card after a night of karaoke - THE STAFF politely informed me that there's no Credit Card processors on the premises and that the security staff will politely escort me to an ATM to withdraw the proper amount of monies to cover my tab.

"Thankie you , gringo. Are you sure you have money at the ATM ? Just bring bhat in future."

The security staff looked as though they would rather enjoy an early morning workout if the ATM card didn't work. Funny that shrug1

For me it works fine.
Spent way more than 100.000 this year already.

And next year we will see if I still use it or go back to a normal card. But I doubt it.

To add insult to injury, arrived at the Sabai Resort in Pattaya a few days ago for a well earned holiday, went to pay for my 2 rooms with my flash debit card and it was rejected. Called the call centre and after what seemed like an eternity learn't that my daily spend limit was capped at 20,000 baht, my bill was a little over that, so had to trundle off to an ATM to withdraw the funds. I was asked if I wanted to raise the cap on my daily spend and after some thought declined when I saw how easy it would be for someone to use my card if I lost it.

I have encountered a "daily" limit with my Bangkok Bank Debit Card but it turned out to be transaction limit as far as cash withdrawals are concerned. Seems pointless I can't withdraw 39,000 but I can one minute apart withdraw 19,500 and 19,500
