hi guys,

looking for some advice please
i want to apply for my 1 year marraige visa, ive been to the "local"
immigration over by M&D coffee.
the nice lady told me i would be best to go to Laos get a 3 month visa
then come back and see her.
she can then convert that to a yearly.
she could do nothing there at the time as i am not yet in my 50's.

where in Loas is the Thai Embassy and can i fly in or need to go by land ?
and if so where ?

cheers

Go to the Thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao about 350km from Surin. Easy to get to. A few members have done so and few more are on their way. Give this site a look most take them up on their offer.
http://www.savanvegas.com/visarun/. You can drive to Mukdahan and use secure parking or you can ly to Mukdahan from Bk and soon to Savannakhet by AA. Or you can take a bus from Surin to Mukdahn. the Savanvegas will pick you up on the Thai side and take you over to Lao.

There's no secure parking ,it's open to all , an un-maned car park at the savan-vegas office just before the friendship bridge.

Rob your going to have two choices for an O. First is Just a single entry O good for 90 days which you'll need to convert in last 30 days to an extension to stay based on marriage. The second is an O-Multiy based on marriage which is good for 15 months and you would convert over to an extension to stay in the last 30 day period. The O-M requires you to exit Thailand ever 90 days and if you do your last border hope before the enter by date this is where you get that extra 90 days (15 months). Both of these visa will require you to show prof of marriage So you will need your marriage certificate and a copy, a copy of the wife's ID card and copy of her house book also get a copy of your kr2 from any amphur and a letter from your boss that say please let my husband stay. The nice thing about Savannakhet is that no prof of any amount of funds is required for these visa.

I recently went to Laos and parked under cover at the Friendship Bridge, walked a few metres and in to the Savan Vegas reception lounge adjacent to the car park. They filled out the visa forms and booked the bus across the border..had to get out at the checkpoint on either side only to be photographed by the camera on the immigration officer's desk..got back in to the bus and then off to the SavanVegas Casino/hotel. You are looked after like kings and then they take you by bus to the Thai Consul close by and lodge the visa application and bring you back next day to collect same. The cost of all this was 800 baht for a deluxe room. Food's good in the dining room, but you are somewhat isolated from Savannakhet town at the casino if you were wanting to go in to town.
Get your times right to do all this as the Thai Consul is open only on certain hours and it might mean you spend another day in the casino.
They then bring you back to the immigration checkpoint.
Really great service.

I did not leave the hotel , the SV staff done all the running around the new visa in my passport, was back at the hotel around 2.30 the next day at the hotel VIP desk, did you like the coffee shop in the casino by the stage, with all the home made pastries the apple struddle was the biz.

First class service as you say.

so it looks like i will be driving to the friendship bridge then letting
Savan Vegas take it from there

This place is a must mate for top notch farang food lamb , steaks , pizza , continental breakfast , and the mini mart next door has a great selection of wine at ok prices ,the restaraunt are ok for you to take in , they own the mini mart ;) spaghetti good also and very good coffee ,ask for the Doa shopping mall it's out of town 5 mins on a motor bike taxi , we always hire a motor bike , it's a mall with an ace coffee shop attached . The mall has an amazing choice of wine whiskey spirits and euro sweets tons of things , if you don't ask you won't bump into this place it's out off the main road .

If I was you I would stay in town mate there's not a lot in town but even less out , there is also a night club that is out of town about 5 k starts late ends in the early hours ;) kinda Thai style .

Opposite not far from that market there's a very nice hotel , new rooms great bed with a real thick mattress and new tv very nice rooms , wood decor wifi , Loas style breakfast . I will try to find its name on the google after .
Most of the hotels and guest houses down town are some what tacky an old , the casino hotel is nice but out a bit from the town .

Once you get over the border there are Tuk tuk drivers waiting 100 baht each I think it cost to town .
Takes about 20 mins .
But I cant find that hotel ,so if its a nice posh hotel you need better take Surins advice and taxi into town and back.

Found it , this is a very nice hotel new and nice about 800 a night ,breakfast nothing special but very nice new rooms I will go back here for sure .
Motor bikes can be rented from most guest houses and maybe here ,over the road you can rent cars ,cheap to I was told .
