On April 14, 2023, the Joint Operations Center for Road Accident Prevention and Reduction during Songkran 2023 in Sisaket Province held a meeting with working groups from 22 districts via video conferencing system, with Mr. Surasit Inthakorn Udom, Deputy Governor of Sisaket Province presiding over the meeting.

The meeting marked the third day of data collection, during which there were three accidents resulting in four injuries.

A summary of road accidents during the first three days of the Songkran Festival (11-13 April 2023) revealed that there were four accidents with four injuries and one fatality, mostly involving motorcycles.

The main causes of these accidents were drunk driving and speeding, with a significant number of riders not wearing helmets, reported Naew Na.

In response to these alarming statistics, Deputy Governor Surasit Inthakorn Udom has called for an increased intensity of preventive measures and a reduction in road accidents.

He has urged the responsible parties to monitor and set up checkpoints and extraction points, focusing on the inspection of vehicles and the readiness of drivers.

Additionally, he emphasized the need for continuous law enforcement against speeding drivers, drinking and driving, and motorcyclists who do not wear helmets in order to ensure maximum safety for the public.

According to statistics released by the Sisaket Provincial Police, during the Songkran Festival, a total of 1,470 people were arrested, 346 of whom were arrested for drunk driving.

The police seized 213 cars, 192 motorcycles, and 21 other vehicles in the course of 10 major arrests. These numbers underscore the importance of road safety measures and the need for continued vigilance in order to prevent accidents and keep the public safe.
