This morning, having put it off, I set off to renew my Siam Commercial and Bangkok Bank ATM cards#
1) SCB
Went in 4 people, 2 general tellers. No tickets or queue numbers visible. Someone suggested I get a tcket. Where? Outside on the street! WTF!
Eventually go to teller No 1. She updated my book, took photos, then announced she could not renew ATM cards. I would have to wait for teller No 2. 20 mins later I am called to teller no 2. Sign here and sign there. usual procedure. Then she demands to know my UK address. No have. But you are farang...you must have. Not so, says I...I have been here 35 years -probably before you were even born! She would not proceed and had to call the manager over, he was satisfied, and I eventually got my new card
2) Bangkok Bank
Some 15 people in the bank..no seats and just 2 tellers 1 general and 1 for new accounts/ATM cards. Whilst waiting for the specialist teller I saw 3 people who had no queue number jump the queue and hand over their ID card to the general teller. Not my concern., but they received immediate attention. THEN, a monk walks in, takes a general ticket, but wants to open an account. Fortunately my teller did not try and assist but the other teller dropped everything and spent the next 15 minutes assisting him. Why the F**K could he not wait his turn? Eventually the manager appeared on the scene, and started assisiting the now huge number of customers. That is no way to run a bank, and I will be telling Bangkok Bank HO as such later today!
