I was given a guided tour of the then ‘New’ Speed before it opened to the public. The owner was showing off about how much he had spent, especially on the sound system!

Yeah, and if you are going to go the illegal pay 'em off route, at least keep the underage and troublemakers out so as not to show over the radar. But that was a prime audience... the late teens. The place was packed out nearly every night. The money was rolling in no doubt.

I have never understood the 20 age restriction for drinking in Thailand. Many many kids get "married" at around 16, have 1/2 kids by 20, and it is quite acceptable for them to work in bars at the age of 18 and sell their bodies!
