Its only money.:openmouth: The brood looks like they are settling in.;) SWMBO has her crew in this morning making further improvements to the ranch. You ask wtf are you going to do with them birds? o_OMe nothing BUT SWMBO already has customers booking chicks and well be sold for about 25 to 35 baht each. So how is she going to accomplish this..there is a commercial size incubator that is being delivered and it is not coming from Lazada or China.:D

Adam says morning girls.

The black ones are presumably the girls. What variety of bird are they? Can't see any raised beams, branches etc for them to sleep on. Most chickens prefer to sleep off the ground.

I'm still working on the name of the birds but will get it. The perches for sleeping are being taken care of.

Very nice, a sizeable operation. Any fresh organic eggs for sale?

I think this is more of a breeding set-up rather than egg laying.. My wife has layers- she gets between 90/100 eggs a day -all spoken for,. We have 50 new birds (around 20 weeks old) and waiting for them to start laying.

As I said the works are in progress. We were not ready for delivery BUT had to give room and board. Hold your nickers.:D BTW had one egg this morning.:p

Good pics and video. Thanks for posting up GL.

I haven't seen so many Trump supporters in such close quarters prior. I'm sure there is going to he some in-fighting and lots of chicken shyte for sure.

:poutingcat: Adam won't be voting Re-PUB-lie-can...and quite sadly at present, neither will I (if it's between Cruz and Donald).
Ban abortion prior to 8 weeks , punish doctors...and curtail availability of 'morning after' pills. What a sad relic of a once proud political party.

Anyhow thanks for those chick pics.
Did you put Penthouse out of business. :tired:

The wife has about 200+ Road Island and another 100+ BBQ that just urned 3 months old. Another 3 months then they start laying. With the new addition we are at 435+girls. There are studs mixed with them that are on call 24/7.:D Yes this is a breeding ranch.:D The incubator is coming from Bangkok but takes about 2-3 months. This is a commercial grade unit that can handle 4000 eggs at one time. Now back at the ranch, all escape routes have been sealed off, perches are being put in place and an upgraded watering system will go in. AND nesting beds for laying for the time being are going in.

The first egg.

We have had layers for a couple of years now, gives the missus some pin money, can't keep up with demand for the eggs. So she has just bought some layer chicks much cheaper than adult birds 30 baht as opposed to 250-300, but of course you need to feed them etc and they don't lay for several months. All swings and roundabouts I suppose. She is up to about 300 hens at the moment. Plus she bought a few hundred chicks to raise for meat, all sold at 1.5kg, except for 7 that she kept for me as at 1.5kg they are too small, so when I get home next week these blighters will be 3-4kg and ready for roasting!! YUM-YUM!

Just been out to the wife friends on chickens, checking out his new incubator from Bangkok. Two units, the larger holds 4800 eggs and it takes 21 days. The smaller unit holds 400 hatchlings for 3 days. The eggs being put in the tray are from her KFC 95 each. Cost of this set up 150,000 baht, thats a lot of KFC and yes SWMBO has a setup on order it will take about 2 months. In the mean while she has free use of her friends unit tell hers get delivered.

Impressive set up GL. Who is going to do the chicken sexing course? Before you think I am joking, it is a well paid precise occupation.
By the way, how are the chooks coping with the extreme heat? Do you have fans and sprays ?

They are flattered by your concern.:D There doing very will in this heat with no fans or mist. They have ample shade, water and food and a new and improved watering system is going in as we speak. As for the sexing course their looking for a volunteer with a work permit.

British chicken sexing in crisis: experts needed to spot a 'very, very small' difference

The British chicken sexing industry is in crisis. In hatcheries up and down the country, golden day-old chicks cascade down conveyor belts waiting to have their gender established, so they can be assigned to lives as roosters or egg-layers. But, with no new recruits since 2012 – and the value of poultry exports increasing at a rate of five per cent a year – the UK’s 29 qualified professionals are struggling to keep up.

From The Independent 10 Mar 2016 - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...ot-a-very-very-small-difference-10096749.html

Mind you the article goes on to say the pay is quite good, a starting salary of £40,000 pounds per year. Now GL, if you will pay me £40,000 x 50 = 2 million Baht per year, I will do the course, get a professional qualification and even get a work permit too.

I know a "little" about the subject as I worked on a large chicken farm when I was a kid in my summer holidays. It was always a panic when the temp hit 40° C, for when temperatures reach 40° C or above the chickens can't lose heat fast enough and die. We had to turn on fine mist sprays and fans. By the way that is where I first ran into the occupation of the chicken sexer.

Not saying they don't but have not seen any fans or sprays on chicken operations in the area and yes we have been to some big ones. Last night I was observing the two workers getting the Black Chickens and yes they were expert CHICKEN SEXER's.:D

With yesterdays heat, 2 of our hens were about to give up the ghost when seen around 6pm. They had plenty of drinking water and shade, but were gasping for breath. My wife dipped them in water, they suddenly "came alive" and are fine this morning.
