Hi Guys,
Wife is in Surin: Mother in ICU and she may need to extend her visa: OZ passport and is on a 30 day visa on arrival. Thai passport expired years ago.
Where does she go to extend this: surely she doesn't need to go back to BKK?
Needs to go to an established Immigration office I think.

Thanks guys.
Colin

Dual Citizenship would have avoided this problem, but an Immigration Office seems like the best starting point. A letter from the hospital or doctor might be useful evidence of need for extension or granting of some special visa.

Thanks mate.....will do.
Where is the closest immigration office (closest to Korat)??

As surnmikes said if she does a border run she will be given a 15 day visa exempt entry. 15 days by land 30 days by air. If she goes to immigration she swill need to show an onward air ticket. and only be given a 7 day extension for 1900 baht.

I would be inclined to give Immigration a ring. There are such things as medical extensions and extensions for taking care of dependants.

If agreed to by Immigration then could get 60 days for 1900baht.

Stevo has a very valid point. if your wife can get a letter from her moms doctor stating the purpose she can take this to immigration in Korat and she should be able to get a 90 day extension based on medical or depended care. What ever she does she needs to get this done before her 30 day visa exempt stay expires as she will be treated the same as a farang on her Oz passport as an overstay. 500 baht per day up to 20,000 baht fine. When this is sorted out she needs to get her Thai passport renewed and only use this to enter and leave Thailand on. The Oz passport is to leave and enter Oz on.
