SISAKET, 1st July 2018 (NNT) - The northeastern province of Sisaket is inviting fruit lovers and visitors to take part in its annual festival entitled Lava Durian Sisaket and ASEAN Trade Fair.

The fair is taking place at Sisaket College of Agriculture and Technology in the capital district. The event is aimed at increasing public popularity of durians grown in rich volcanic soil in Sisaket, to stimulate the economy and promote tourism.

The volcanic durians of Sisaket differ from those in other areas for their soft chewy texture, light smell, and only moderately sweet taste.

The fruit has already been classified as a GI product. Many volcanic durian plantations in the province have now been awarded GAP certification. Their product carries a QR code giving consumers information on the delectable fruit.

The fair is offering volcanic durians for 160 baht a kilo. Event-goers say they are impressed with the unique flavor of the volcanic fruit. Lava Durian Sisaket and ASEAN Trade Fair 2018 will end on 8th July.

Went on Staurday and bought some, both whole and in slices. The slices were delicious but i had 2 in the car and it stunk for a day. haha

Had to be brought down originally from the Lampang area as that area has had the only known volcanic activity in Thailand. Just saying.:D

Phanom Rung, Buriram, is much closer to Surin, and is another area of volcanic activity in the country. Apart from Phanong Rung itself, the Khao Kradong Forest Park, 60 kms south of Phanom Rung is also built on the site of a volcano. There is evidence of past volcanic activity in Khao Yai too, and The Central Thailand Volcanic Belt extends between Loei, Petchabun, and Chantaburi.

I can recommend that anyone who is either unable to sleep, or who has an interest in the geology of Thailand looks at the following for more information:
