At 05:45 this morning the call went out over the speakers for all to make it to CRU. Two 10 wheelers of 25 female cows each arrived. As you can see these cows have a tag and are registered. As I post the cows are being settled down and paired off after which they will each get a physical. Then they will be assigned to their new owner. I look for this process to take all day. The cows look to be about 18 months old, all female. It will take time to fatten em up after which they will be knocked up, any volunteers?:D I do not see any new calfs for at least another 18 months. This beef when sold will be to the Surin Livestock & Research Center for at least 25,000 baht per head. For those of you interested Wagyu Beef is sold throughout Thailand and is getting more in demand.

The paddock seems a little on the small size for so many head of cattle. Mind you, I know nothing about keeping cattle so my comment is only that, a comment.

Not at all. It was used as holding pin for separation. By the time I got back down there all but 3 had been put into their new stalls.

The cattle I was told came from a breeding center out of Saraburi next door to Pak Chong.;) They departed at 2 am this morning and arrived about 5:30 am. By the time I got back down to CRU all but 3 had been put into their new stalls resting eating and getting water and then the call "STAMPEDE". One of the last 3 said FORK THIS and headed out. Bust a couple of the post at the corral and broke a water line, not a big deal, then bolted around the pond past the house into the mango orchard about 200 meters. Took 7 of the lads to corner her down by our house and then she walked back to the barn and her new stall.

These 5 three on the left and two on the right are SWMBO cattle.:D You can see the blue pvc line broken by the stampede.

The new heard is settling in. SWMBO made two trips back to the barn last night to check. Rained from about 3am to 5am which is doing wonders for all her new plants AND all the new COW GRASS. She has two kinds and with other they have about 20 rai of grass going. SWMBO along with her mom have another two weeks of planting on her land. She makes a run to the Chong Chom Market about every other day and brings back up to 300 lbs of bananas, mangos and soyacurd. She has venders that call her and they bring these in from Cambodia and locally. Most of the is feed along with the cow grass and feed she got in Surin to her cows she has a total 12 and two more on the way. Her original 5 have put on some serious weight. The locals start coming down our road about 5:30 in the morn. They are making two trips a day to take care of their cow. In the mean while a new entrance from the property next to us is being put in which well help a bunch. This is not a fast fix it contest. It well take about 1 to 2 years to put weight on these girls and then they well get selective insemination.

Yesterday 4 pick ups went out and about cutting Napier Grass. Today there preparing to plant it. There has been 2 large Kubota tractors and 3 what I call tac tac or iron buffalos working between our land and the land next door. SWMBO is out there giving instructions.:mad::D:D

Many many years ago I went on an organised visit to a cattle artificial insemination centre in Lancashire.
To gather the semen they used this contraption like a big revolving wheel to which was attached a cow and a few feet behind a very large bull.
When the bull was excited and trying without success to rear up onto the cows rear they slipped a collection bag over his member and stored and sold the collection for a large amount of money
